Huddersfield v Catalans preview – a 6/5 price worth backing

It’s a rarity we get Wednesday night rugby league – on this occasion it isn’t televised with Huddersfield Giants entertaining Catalans Dragons.

It’s a tough one to call in terms of form – neither are in the greatest form but there is an expectation from both sides on building on their most recent results.

The Giants haven’t won in their last six but have come away with draws against Wigan and St Helens in recent weeks –while Catalans ended a three-match losing streak with victory at Leigh last week.

We previewed their best prices available to them in a comprehensive round-up of the early prices of all of the games.

The home side haven’t been scoring a lot of points and have shipped a few too. Only Widnes have a worse points per game ratio at both ends of the field and have three times lost by 30+ points so far this season.

But giving who they are up against, it’s fair to say that a lot of people will be betting on instinct more than anything. They are as short as 8/11 to record a victory but can be found at 11/10 (BetVictor and Paddy Power). It looks as though they have broadly got the pricing right with Catalans 4/5 and 8/11 respectively.

The Dragons are available at 6/5 with Stan James and it looks to be a real value bet as they go in search of back-to-back wins for the first time since their opening two fixtures of the season – where they beat Warrington and Hull.

Their average winning margin this season is seven points – so if you do back them you might have a nervous wait. They are a side that needs to tighten up on their own line but can be potent at the opposite end of the field.
