Huddersfield and Castleford will begin Round 13 of the Super League action on Thursday night at the John Smith’s Stadium.
The league leaders – who went a point clear at the top following a 54-4 demolition of Wigan – are without a couple of their key players because of international duty.
Zak Hardaker and Luke Gale are part of the England side that will take on Samoa. If you want to know just how influential they have been on their excellent start to the season, just look at the Man of Steel betting! That said, given they are the top scorers in the competition, they are sill likely to have plenty of firepower at their disposal.
Huddersfield will be looking to make it back-to-back wins after a stunning 31-12 victory at Leeds last Thursday. They have looked a threat on the road this season but have just recorded one win at home this season. Away from home they’ve managed to pick up two draws and two wins. The Giants themselves will be without Jermaine McGillvary because of England commitments.
As a result, Castleford’s odds are showing signs of drifting compared to earlier on in the week, while Huddersfield’s have shortened a little with most bookmakers. You can still get 3/10 on a Castleford win, and if you’re lucky the same price on Huddersfield may still be available come the day of the game of 10/3.
The handicap betting that is available sees the Giants given a +12 start in most places at 10/11. There has evidently been some improvement from them in recent weeks, barring their cup defeat to Swinton Lions. Games have been closer in games they have lost, but Castleford will be keen to back up that win over Wigan, especially as two defeats preceded it.
Evens is available for Castleford to cover that with William Hill, and the same price for Huddersfield to defend it, but given their respective average win and loss margins this season, Castleford -14 at 11/10 could be worth backing if you’re feeling bold.
If one were pushed on margin of victory betting, it would have to be for the visitors. Either by 11-20 at 11/4 or one of 11-15 or 16-20 point win, both of which can be found at 13/2.
