Friday’s televised game seems a hard one for the bookies to call. Neither Warrington or St Helens are where they want to be, and have a lot of catching up to do if they are to make this season a success.
Warrington’s four-game winning run came to an end when they were comprehensively beaten by Hull FC. Despite being in the game at half time, they were blown away in the second half – going down 34-10.
St Helens have been unable to string a significant winning run together this season – their longest winning run currently stands at two games. They currently sit in seventh place and are just two points ahead of their opponents going into this encounter.
Home advantage seems to be giving Warrington the slenderest of favourite tags but 10/11 on either side to win the game in 80 minutes can be found.
That’s the best price you will get on the home side, while Saints can be found at Evens in some places – or 21/20 with BetStars. Given how closely matched they are, we should probably point out that the draw is 22/1 with Betfred.
Warrington’s wins have all been tight games – between two and 11 points. Saints have managed to win just once away from home – against Catalans. They will have a reason to impress as they have confirmed the appointment of Justin Holbrook as their new Head Coach.
Three of Saints five victories have been within four points. The other two have been at home to sides on long, winless runs. Warrington was one of them, the other was Leigh last week.
Warrington at -2 on the handicap at 11/10 is a bet that seems to appeal. Their wins have been in pretty close games so that could be a nervy evening for you should you back it.
Given that neither side tends to win or lose by many, you don’t have to look too far in the margin of victory bets.
Warrington 1-10 – 12/5 (Bet365)
Warrington 1-5 – 13/2 (BetVictor)
Warrington 6-10 – 11/2 is widely available
St Helens 1-10 – 13/5 (Bet365)
St Helens 1-5 – 13/2 (BetVictor)
St Helens 6-10 – 11/2 is widely available.
Note the similarity in price for both sides, which again suggests that it’s a pretty close game to call.
