Widnes Vikings v Hull FC betting preview: a mismatch?

The final game of Round 13 of Super League sees Hull FC travel to struggling Widnes Vikings as the Challenge Cup holders look to keep up the pressure on Castleford Tigers, and close the gap to within a point.

They are favourites to do so after recording a third consecutive win last week against Warrington – and they were impressive in the second half especially, as they put 20 unanswered points on their opponents.

You can get 1/3 on Hull making it four wins on the bounce with Widnes as long as 3/1 to cause an upset. Their price has drifted a little from earlier on this week.

The Vikings have got some of their front line players back in recent weeks, and performances have improved as a result. In games they have lost, even in games when they’ve been well-beaten, the game has been competitive for long periods.

The bookies have probably got this one about right in terms of the handicap by giving the Vikings a +10 start. Many bookies are offering 10/11 on either side with that handicap – though you can get Evens on Widnes with Bet365. For a nervy one, one would expect Hull to go through the gears to put a bit of daylight between them.

Hull’s average winning margin is just under 15 points, while Widnes average defeat is just under 20 points. You can get Hull winning by 16-20 points at 13/2 with William Hill. If Widnes are to get a win, the chances are it would be by a narrow margin. The Vikings by 6-10 points is available at 12/1 with Betfred.
